This month’s topic for Bloggsip is On The Map! The set of questions are found below, so feel free to join in and answer in your own vlog! And please be sure to link back to it’s creators, the (lovely, wonderful, amazing, gorgeous, lame, nerdy, mildly reclusive.. equally awesome gals) Brittney and Brittany!
The questions I’ll be answering are… (and apologies for lack of special effects on this one; done last minute and hurried. Others will be better, I hope.)
Where are you from? Meaning: Where were you born, where did you grow up, what is considered your “hometown” and a bit about it? Where have you lived? Where do you live now? Where are you hoping to live? What are a few places you’d like to travel and explore?
One of my 30 Before 30 goals is to meet 15 bloggers that I “know,” but don’t really know (if that made any sense).
Last weekend I met Ashley. If you don’t read her, you’re missing out. She’s a fabulous, genuine, adorable, funny, intelligent, so-much-fun-to-be-around, want-to-put-her-in-your-pocket kind of friend. I’ve “known” her for a little over two years now and this past weekend in KC we finally met. It was a total spur of the moment decision to visit her, the whole thing happening within a week of her saying she’d be in Missouri. How could I say NOT go to visit her since she drove 12 long hours from Texas?
We spent hours shopping, baking in the Kansas City heat, walking with our shoes off in support of a charity, taking ridiculous (and some seroius) videos, enjoying beer on a rooftop bar, dancing to videos on youtube in our fabulous comfy PJs from Victoria’s Secret, and eating greasy Mexican food at all hours of the night. I honestly can’t do the weekend justice in words, so go watch this video. I still laugh every time I watch it so maybe you will too. Or maybe you’ll want to go on a road trip to meet me and help me reach my goal. Or maybe you’ll find it annoying, in which case don’t tell me.
It was a whirlwind of a trip but I was definitely sad when it was time to leave. Darn bloggy meet-ups always end too soon.
Here’s to a new blog friendship solidified in real life and more to come!
I’m in the throes of finals. We’re talking research papers and quizzes, complicated finance questions and other general ickiness. Fortunately it all ends on May 14th for a whole two weeks. Times like these I tend to think scattered, random thoughts, much like this post will illustrate.
* You already know I’m obsessed with Parenthood. So much so that I tracked down this video from last week’s episode which had me laughing hysterically and decided I had to share, because we all need a little mid-week laughter:
* And if that doesn’t make you smile then check out this creative, hilarious video from some of our brave soldiers covering Lady Gaga’s Telephone:
* In other news, Darling (aka my fabulous mom) has a book giveaway for you to enter as well. Check it out and enter for a chance to win more summer reading books! Her contest ends this Sunday, is open to US & Canadian residents and you have two ways to enter! So go check it out. You won’t regret it.
* Looking for creative gift ideas? Kyla launched an awesome new project today. Like seriously amazing. We’re talking about an ebook and seeds delivered to your door for a DIY herb garden. Pretty sure this will be something I need to buy for my dad since he’s a cooking fiend who loves to garden and grow a variety of plants and herbs.
* Have unwanted hair? Consider donating it to Matter of Trust, an ecological charity, to help clean up the oil spill. (I read quite about this; it’s not a hoax and really does help.) View details and donation procedures here.
It’s been a bit of a whacky week across the board; maybe it’s residual full moon/tide crap, or maybe everyone just needs a week long siesta on the French Riveria or Italian Wine Country. Whatever it is, times like these I wish I could fly around the country to dole out hugs to friends and family and, okay, maybe wine and cupcakes too.
Since I can’t be everywhere I wish to be: in Florida with my childhood BFF who is about to give birth to her first child; my cousin who is engaged and planning her wedding; my friends going through break-ups and heartaches; having a beer with my brother; supporting friends who have men and women overseas. Since I can’t be there, maybe you can. Hug someone close to you today: friend or family, crush or boyfriend, dog or cat. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make someone’s day.
* I’m going to see Dave Matthews Band in June! Tickets were cheaper than usual so I have real seats. This has pretty much made my Friday. I bought a second seat not knowing who in the world would want to go but I figure a friend will surely want to buy it off me and go. And if not, I’ll use it as a birthday present for one of the many May birthdays coming up.
* It’s sunny out today. You hear that, Old Man Winter? It’s sunny! Which means it’s a lovely day automatically even if it’s no more than 18 F outside.
* Katelin’s awesome Oscar Giveaway! Since I’m having/hosting an Oscar party this would be a perfect addition to the night.
* Everything else such as: leftovers for lunch♥ meeting a friend for brunch on Sunday morning ♥ I’m finally buying my “big girl” running shoes for the race ♥ I’ll be making cupcakes this weekend, completely from scratch ♥ I don’t have to be anywhere early tomorrow ♥ In one week I’ll be on my way to visit my brother and pretend I’m 21 again ♥ Celebrating my five-year anniversary with my company next week ♥ My laundry is done which means one less chore this weekend ♥ I’m done with my antibiotics ♥ I am totally at peace with the fact that I have numerous gray hairs ♥ mentally planning out a few more mini-trips I’d like to take this year ♥ looking forward to a weekend full of friends and fun and hopefully a little R&R for me. ♥
An addiction to merchandise sold at concerts, plays or other live events I attend. (I buy shirts, occasionally environmentally friendly tote bags, and rarely a sticker. Shirts are perfect for the gym, sometimes going out… DMB shirts have the coolest designs ever… and sleeping in.)
When the doors finally open and I can go into the venue, I make a beeline to the “merch booth,” to peruse the wares. Depending on the event I may be able to find presents for the family (like a “Killers” t-shirt for Darling, or a sticker for my brother to put on his bass case). Other times it’s purely selfish, all for me.
So, when my whole family went to see Eddie Izzard earlier this month, I told myself it wasn’t necessary to buy anything. Sure, I’ve seen his stand-up on DVD but never live, I don’t know all his jokes, so it would be pointless for me to buy something.
And then I saw it. A t-shirt that says “Cake or Death?” I had to have it. Partially because the question is obviously ridiculous and who would choose Death over Cake? Partially because it was a cute fitted black tee with a glorious looking cupcake/cake logo. I bought it.
Then my family teased me for not having a single clue as to what the message on my shirt means. After the show I promptly used “the google,” to find out what I’d be displaying proudly when it’s finally warm enough to wear the shirt:
Another reason to like Eddie, in case you didn’t already? He ran 43 marathons in 51 days. 43 FULL marathons, in 51 days. They showed a video after his show about his journey and I must say it’s incredibly inspiring.
I also can’t wait for this movie to be available in the U.S. It’s a documentary all about Eddie Izzard, his path, his life, but what struck me the most? The quote that is woven throughout this trailer, all about believing in yourself. “You’ve got to believe.” Plain, simple, but so true.
