Ten on Tuesday: Fingers, Toes & the Cinema

I haven’t done Ten on Tuesday in ages since I’ve been a) a blog slacker and b) totally out of the loop but I couldn’t pass up these fun questions this week. Questions provided by Sue at Simon’s Sista Saw and as always Ten on Tuesday is hosted by Chelsea.

1. What colour are your toenails painted?
A bright purple by “Sinful Colors,” which I purchased from Walgreens solely because it was on sale for $1.99. I’m still not sure if I like it as much as the hot pink I had last week.

2. What colour are your fingernails painted?
Natural (aka nothing) right now. I need to slap some clear coat on there though.

3. What is your favourite brand of nail polish?
I’m not brand loyal when it comes to nail polish. Whatever I can get at Target is good enough for me, so usually NYC or Sally Hansen since they have fun colors and are almost always on sale.

4. As the norm, do you DIY your nails or get mani/pedis?
DIY my nails. I haven’t had a mani/pedi in… well… since October 2010. I could really use one especially with all the high heel and flip-flop/strappy sandal walking I’ve been doing lately. Must fix that soon.

5. Have you ever had a gel mani? Do you recommend it?
Never have done it but have heard great things!

6. What is the last movie you watched on television? (TV, Netflix, Redbox, etc.)
Last movie we watched was Despicable Me with the kidlets on Friday. Belle calls it “spicadbled me,” which is just the cutest thing ever, especially when she runs all over the house shouting it.

7. What is the last movie you watched in the cinema?
“Grown up” movie – Bridesmaids back in May.
Kid movie- Winnie the Pooh on Saturday. It was really adorable. As Knight said “Disney has figured out a way to get millions of children under the age of five to be quiet and focus for more than six minutes. He’s a genius.”

8. Is there a movie that everyone talks about as if it is a classic but you haven’t seen?
Gone with the Wind (book before movie rule, people). A Clockwork Orange. Titanic.

9. What is your favourite movie soundtrack?
“Once,” best music for a movie ever.

10. Have you ever seen a movie and thought it was better than the book it was based on?
Nope. Not yet.

Your turn; play along on your blog (make sure to link up with Chelsea) or answer in the comments! Any classic movies I absolutely must check out?

Ten on Tuesday: The Cell Phone Edition

Thanks to Chelsea for hosting and Krys at Eat This Soup for the questions!

1. What type of phone do you have? Do you like it?
I currently have a Samsung Vibrant (Android). I do like it. However, since I moved my cell phone service is crap. I suppose that’s what happens when you live in a town of 850 people.

2. How old were you when you got your first cell phone?
18, a freshman in college. It hardly any minutes on it and was primitive, but it worked. I was able to call home or my friends in case of emergency.

3. How many cell phones have you owned since your first?
Oh, goodness. Six or seven? I have a bit of a problem when it comes to cell phones, I like to switch them up often. If I can’t get my cell service working up here, I’ll be switching providers and getting an iPhone most likely.

4. How much is your average monthly phone bill?
Around $100. Unlimited texting, data, free mobile-to-mobile minutes, 1000 day minutes and unlimited nights and weekends. And internet, too. So I guess that’s not too bad? I honestly have no idea.

5. When you were a kid/teenager, were you allowed to have a phone in your room?
I didn’t have a phone in  my room until I was in eighth grade. Fortunately the phone in the kitchen had a super long cord on it so I could go hide in the laundry room and chat if I needed privacy. I didn’t have my own line nor did we have call waiting like a lot of other people and I was totally ok with that.

6. Do you like talking on the phone or do you despise it? Or somewhere in-between?
Somewhere in between for the most part. I love a good catch up session with my girlfriends. I despise awkward calls where it’s not quite clear why the other person is calling.

7. Do you text a lot? Is texting/talking while driving illegal where you live? Are you guilty of it anyway?
I do text a lot.
Well, in  Missouri I know texting is illegal if you’re under the age of 21 (personally I think it should be illegal for everyone, a waste of a law if you ask me) but I’m not sure about my new State. I don’t text while driving/moving. If I’m at a stop light or in completely stopped traffic I will if need be. If I *must* send a text while driving, I use my voice-to-text feature.

8. What sort of texting keyboard does your phone have? Touch screen, slide out, or something different? Do you care?
Touch screen. I love it, for the most part, minus the autocorrect or when it stores words that don’t exist.

9. Look at the last call in your call log – who is it? What were they calling about? Who calls you the most?
Knight. Telling me he’s on his way home. I’d say my parents call me the  most now, before it was Knight and/or my brother.

10. What is the longest phone call you can recall having?
When Knight and I first met we had a four hour conversation. This was before we saw each other on a regular basis and was during the get-to-know you phase.

Your turn! Answer in the comments or post on your own blog and link-up with Chelsea.

Ten on Tuesday: The Summer Edition

Thanks to Chelsea for hosting and Akirah from Quarter Life Lady for the questions this week!

1. From your childhood, what do you miss most about summer vacation?
Freedom! I could stay up late, sleep in late, read tons of books, spend hours by the pool, every night was like an endless sleepover with my friends, remembering waking up and having a huge stretch of unplanned day in front of me. Best thing ever. {photo credit}

2. Are you going anywhere on vacation this summer?
LA, but it’s not a vacation, it’s for work. I will squeeze in some time with my blogging buddies and some touristy stuff too I hope.

3. What foods do you like to barbecue?
Chicken. Burgers. Hot dogs.

4. How do you celebrate the fourth of July?
Depends. Historically at my friends lake house, eating, drinking, tanning, girl talk, ending in fireworks. This year Knight and I are trekking home with the girls for our engagement party, time in my parents pool, a baseball game and fireworks.

5. What’s your favorite beverage to drink in the summertime?
Water or pink lemonade.

6. What movie are you looking forward to seeing this summer?
The Hangover II. It will be ridiculous but I must see it.

7. In the car: windows down or AC?
Windows down first, then AC.

8. Have you ever had a summer fling?
Yup.

9. Do you wear sunscreen?
YES! I’m terrified of getting skin cancer.

10. Do you have any favorite summertime activities?
Reading. Pool time. BBQing. Family walks.

Ten on Tuesday: A Random Set

As always, hosted by the lovely Chelsea at Roots & Rings. The questions are hers this week too; if you have a question set to submit, contact Chelsea as she’s always looking for more.

1. Have you ever used Craigslist?
I’ve looked at it before for apartments, but I don’t think I actually contacted any of them. Oh, but there was one time where I was listed as a Missed Connection several times. Turns out it was an ex who was trying to contact me even thoug he had a live-in girlfriend. Interesting, right?

2. Can you sew?
Not to save my life. It’s really quite sad. That’s one thing I want to learn how to do so I can fix buttons and holes and things.

3. Do you pour syrup on your pancakes or dip your pancakes in the syrup?
Poor them on the pancakes but only after sufficiently buttering them up. And not too much syrup. Just enough to get the sweet/salty mix going on.

4. Rain storms: Love them or hate them?
Well I used to love them, like *love* them. But every since the tornado any sort of serious rain storm gives me anxiety and kind of freaks me out. I’m trying to get over it and quite frankly I’m surprised I’m having that issue, but there it is. With that said, a low-key rainy day without high winds and hail, I’m totally still in love with them.

5. Do you like swimming?
Yes, although I’m more of a lazy river, float around the pool kind of a girl. Swimming as a workout is pretty kick-butt though!

6. What kind of drink do you order at Sonic?
Dr. Pepper. Or a shake. I’m not incredibly original there.

7. Are you funny?
I am funny when I don’t mean to be for the most part (read: when I’m sad, angry, emotional of some sort). It makes people laugh though and usually makes me feel better as well, so I’m good with it. Lately I’ve had a lot of good one-liners since people are giving me the content for them.

8. At what age will your kids get cell phones?
Probably when they start driving. They won’t have unlimited everything though and perhaps limited access to the phones. Harsh, right?

9. What’s your favorite vegetable?
Broccoli, preferably steamed. My favorite. Close second: green beans.

10. Were you a Girl Scout?
Yes! My favorite was earning badges and selling cookies. (I recently found my girl scout sash; kind of fun to look at all the badges we earned.) I think I stopped the program around 6th grade when my troop dissolved.

Ten on Tuesday in Pictures

Thanks to Chelsea for hosting!

Provided by Molly at Considering Campbells.

This is a photo edition of ToT. Post a photo of each of the following (which originally I wasn’t going to do as I’m battling a cold but then I realized I had everything I needed already taken for the most part and I really wanted to play along this week!…):

1. Your favorite piece of furniture in your home.
Probably my red couch. It’s a full-sized couch, looks pretty modern and is super comfy with over-sized pillows. And yes, it often comes with a side of Jack.

2. Your favorite thing on your wall.
Picasso’s “The Lovers” (I’m sure this answer will change in about 10 days since most of my artwork is already hanging up at Knight’s house.)

3. Your bed as it looks right now.
As in when I’m writing this? I guarantee it looks like this since Jack jumps on  my bed the moment I leave for work.

4. Your pantry.
No pantry! At least not one that is my own. Yet. Give me 10 days to answer this one, k?

5. Your favorite piece of jewelry.
This is a no-brainer. My engagement ring of course.

6. Your favorite book.

7. Your most comfortable shirt.
You can’t really see it but it’s a Bar Bounce shirt I got last year for a charity thing. I don’t know why I love it so much. (That cute baby? Yeah, that’s my childhood bff’s little girl. I totally fell in love with her).

8. Your messiest room.

Since I live at home, I don’t have one. At Knight’s house, it’s probably his oldest girl’s room. Even when it’s “clean” it still looks messy.

9. Your house shoes.
My feet. But I don’t like my feet at all so I’m not showing them to you. Sorry.

10. Yourself.
(Obviously me on the right, my mom on the left. Taken just before my brother’s graudation on Saturday evening. It was freezing out hence the wrap. And the darn wind was blowing but I still love this photo.)

Ten on Tuesday: Movies

Thanks to Chelsea for hosting this week and using a set of my questions!

1. If you could watch only one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be? Love Actually, hands down. I love all the vignettes, the music, the actors, the characters, the message. I know, it’s a corny choice but I just love that movie. Runner up: The Notebook or The Holiday, you know, in case my DVD of Love Actually ever gets scratched or dies or something.

2. Let’s say someone wrote a screenplay about you; what actor/actress would you choose to play you and why?
Natalie Portman. She’s just one of my all-time favorites.

3. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in theaters?
Bambi! I didn’t like it much and I distinctly remember my awesome father falling asleep within in the first 10 minutes and snoring. I don’t remember if I woke him up or not though. If you ask him, he claims it didn’t happen. It so did.

4. Did you ever make out at the back of a movie theater in middle school/high school?
Believe it or not, none of the dudes I dated in high school were back-of-the-theater-maker-outers (the car parked in my parents driveway was better apparently). The dudes in college? Evidently were. I had several guys take me to movies I really wanted to see and they spent the whole time attempting to shove their tongue in my  mouth. Rather unpleasant really.

5. Are you a Netflix-er, Blockbuster-er or a Redbox-er? (Or none of the above?)
Netflix all the way! I’ve been a subscriber for four years now? I love it. Wouldn’t change it for the world (though occasionally I go back and forth on number of discs I like to have at home).

6. Name one actor/actress who you would give anything to have a dinner date with.
Benicio Del Toro (he’s still the best in Excess Baggage if you ask me.) Or Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Mostly cause I have had  massive crushes on them for quite sometime. (Photo Credit of Benicio) (Photo Credit of Jeffrey Dean Morgan)

7. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?
Men Seeking Women. It’s an early Will Ferrell movie and quite possibly the WORST movie ever. And Law Abiding Citizen since it nearly gave me a heart attack.

8. Do you sneak snacks into the theater when you go?
Sometimes I will yes but I almost always buy something too (Cherry Cola slushy?  Hard to resist at the theater).

9. Movie theater popcorn: love or hate it?Love it. Until I don’t, meaning, I’ll eat a ton of it and then later I’ll have the worst stomach ache ever. Side note: movie theater popcorn + M&MS? In the same hand? Delicious combination.

10. What is the all-time best Disney movie in your opinion?
Cinderella if we are talking old-school animated/hand drawing. Toy Story if we are taking Disney/Pixar.

Ten on Tuesday: Chelsea’s Questions

A bit of housekeeping if you will: Check out Nilsa’s awesome Shabby Apple Dress Giveaway. Who wouldn’t say no to pretty dresses? And check back later this week for a giveaway of my very own; I picked up a little something for my readers from my yearly trip to the Great Book Fair.

Thanks to Chelsea for hosting and coming up with the questions for this week’s Ten on Tuesday!

1. What is the weather like in your city today?
At the time of posting, super overcast, cold, and gross. Apparently Mother Nature doesn’t know it’s May. I don’t think it’s supposed to get much better than that all week, so that’s lovely. All I know is wearing sweaters and cardigans to work is getting super old.

2. Do you like the zoo?
Yes, so much that I take visitors to go; it’s free and voted one of the best free zoos by Parenting magazine. My favorite animals are the penguins (duh), the giraffes, and the apes since you can get up close and personal with them.

3. Do you eat coconut?
Nope. Never. Dislike Button.

4. Have you ever hammered a nail? Are you good at it?
Yes and yes. At least for a girl. I would love a pink hammer like Rory from Gilmore Girls. Kudos to you if you get that reference.

5. Does your family have a vacation destination that you visit often?
Back when we used to take family vacations it was Daytona Beach, FL. Our measure for a good trip, pretty much any place that has a beach and ocean and is relaxing.

6. How many pillows do you sleep with?
Two and sometimes one in my arms. There are always four pillows on my bed though; I leave the other two there even if I’m not using them.

7. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Hit the snooze button. And then check my cell phone. And then I’ll contemplate what to wear to work. Super exciting, right?

8. Will you send your kids to summer camp?
If they want to go, sure. I went to a lot of day camps and loved it so I’d hope they’d like to go as well.

9. What do you put in your baked potatoes?
Butter. Sour cream. Shredded cheese. If available bacon or chives. Oh, and broccoli!

10. Did you take swimming lessons as a kid?
Yes, I did. Another experience I loved even though I don’t remember a whole lot of it.

Ten on Tuesday: Beauty, Rommates & More

Ten on Tuesday hosted by Chelsea from Roots and Rings; today’s questions provided by Molly at Considering the Campbells.

1. How many blogs do you read every day and what are they? (I’m talking the ones you NEVER miss)
Lately I’ve been super slacking off when it comes to reading blogs everyday but the ones that I really do my best NOT to miss (when they post that is) are: Lisa of Lisa’s Yarns, Mandy of Knowing the Difference, Becky at Love Everyday Life, Amber from Girl with the Red Hair, That Super Awesome Blog, Habbala, Dude and Sweeties, Roots and Rings, SoMiSpeaks, Meredith from Please & Thank you Ma’amKyla Roma, Katelin from Pretty Sandy Feet and I’m sure about 10 others that I’m blanking on at the moment…Bottom line: I subscribe to over 100+ blogs and while I may not comment on *every single post* I am reading them all. It just takes me time! With that being said, I’m interested in adding even more blogs for new perspectives and ideas, so if you know of someone I should be reading, let me know.

2. How many “best friends” do you have? Do you have different “besties” for different areas of your life?
I’d say four super close best friends, and then a few more distant ones, meaning that even if we don’t talk all the time, when we do talk it’s like we haven’t skipped a beat. I do have besties from different times in my life : childhood BFF, high school BFF, college BFF, post-college BFF.

3. What’s your daily make up routine?
Pretty simple. SPF face lotion from Trader Joe’s that I’m in love with,  Mary Kay mineral powder, Cover Girl mineral blush, Revlon eye shadow + Rimmel mascara. Usually clear lip gloss or a low key color. {Photo Credit}

4. What is your ideal girl’s night?
Lately it involves wine + pizza, a stack of chick flicks or Sex & The City and a handful of good magazines to look at together.

5. Do you keep up with your nails/toenails or are they au natural?
Toes- always. Nails, only since I got engaged, normally they are au natural.

6. What’s your best roommate story (assuming you had a roommate at some point in your life)?
I’ve had quite a few roommates. I don’t know that I have a super awesome roommate story really. I mean, I do, but they aren’t really blog appropriate (and none of them involve me, either). One of my roommates was really into drinking pickle juice from the jar, which I thought was interesting.

7. What’s your “go to” outfit that you wear more than anything else?
I bought a pair of boyfriend jeans from Ann Taylor Loft about a month ago, they roll up just a little bit, are worn just right and are super comfortable. So pretty much those with any top and a cute pair of flats and I’m good to go.

8. Do you have a beauty secret?
Not that I can think of. I’ve heard olive oil is good for the skin so I try to buy products that have olive oil in them and it does make your skin look smoother/softer.

9. Did you read Seventeen magazine growing up?
Totally. Religiously in fact.

10. How did you learn to put on makeup?
My mom at first, and then in high school she took me to Clinique to get a makeover, so I learned some more then. The rest of it was self-taught. I’d still love to learn how to do a smoky eye and do it right, though. Perhaps I should YouTube it.

Your turn to play/comment on my answers!

Ten on Tuesday: The Book Edition!

Love today’s questions since I’m a bookworm. Thanks to the fabulous Erin from The State I Am In for the question and of course, thanks to Chelsea for hosting!

1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
The Shadow of The Wind. I read it for a book club I was involved in and fell in love with it. Couldn’t put it down; it’s that good. Combines mystery + history + romance + drama. If you haven’t read it before, definitely check it out!

2.  Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron?
I’m guilty of both. If the books are on sale or are part of a series/collection, I’ll definitely buy them. Otherwise, I’ll borrow them from the library.  {Photo Credit}

3.  E-readers, yay or nay?
Currently, nay but I think that’s cause I don’t have one. I’ve seen Lisa’s and my mom’s and I have to say, I get e-reader envy when I do. But at the same time, I’m not quite ready to let go of carrying around a book in my purse. Though with an e-reader I could carry around multiple books in my purse. Maybe someday…

4.  What was your favorite book as a child?
Oh, this is tough. Anne of Green Gables I think. I also loved Laura Ingalls Wilder, anything that was for young adults that was about the Revolutionary and/or Civil War (historical fiction), and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

5.  If you could be any character in a book, who would you be?
Valentine from the series written by Adriana Trigiani.

6.  What book would you love to see turned into a movie?
Jemima J or Mr. Maybe, both by Jane Green. Or anything else by Jennifer Weiner; she writes some great stuff, especially her latest (Fly Away Home).

7.  What is your all-time favorite book?
I’d have to say The Help since it was the first one to pop into my mind. That was another book I couldn’t put down and I loved it so darn much; didn’t want it to end.

8.  How many books do you read at once?
I usually juggle two books at a time.

9.  What is your favorite book genre?
Fiction. I know, pretty general. As of late it’s been a bit of the classical fiction and then the young adult fiction. And then if I need a break, some chick lit or ridiculous vampire books of some sort. I know, I’m so deep when it comes to reading. Truth be told, I’ll read/try almost anything, hence the fact I have about 40 actual books on my shelf that I need to read.

10.  Which Harry Potter book is the best?  Or haven’t you read them at all?
Well I just finished the fourth one and loved it the most, so, thus far, the fourth book!

Feel free to play along in the comments or join in on your own blog.

Any books you’ve loved lately that I should check out? Anything to share on the e-readers to persuade me to take the plunge on that sooner rather than later?

Ten on Tuesday: Keepin’ it Random

Thanks to the always lovely Chelsea for hosting and one of my favorite people ever, Lisa, for the questions!

1. If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
I’d love to take public transportation but to get the 25 miles from my house to the office? Would take me close to 90 minutes *assuming* everything ran on time. So instead I drive; sometimes I carpool with my dad which is always fun (and usually means free Starbucks!)

2. How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
I go about every eight weeks or so. Since October I’ve been going to the same lady; she saved my poor, fried hair and she’s rather fabulous.I’m hoping to time my trips home with my haircut needs/appointments!

3. Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hardcopy or the online version?
Rarely. If I do, it’s the online version. I used to read the hard copy when I was in college because we got them for free (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and two other regional papers, all for free. It was glorious.)

4. What is the best book you have read this year?
One Day. Check it out if you haven’t (especially because it’s being released as a movie later this year!) A close second are the Harry Potter books I’ve been reading this year.

5. What is the best movie you have seen this year?
Phew. That’s a tough one. I finally saw Pirate Radio the other night and loved. Inspirational in many ways, fabulous fashion and of course, killer musice. I haven’t been to the theater to see anything new and “grown up,” in awhile. Must fix that.

6. Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
Both. I love the combination of them together. It’s like a party in my mouth and satisifies my cravings in a big, big way. Thinks like pretzels + junior mints, popcorn + M&Ms, you know, the healthy things.

7. Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have?
Um, no. I know, super not healthy.

8. If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to?
The mini milk chocolate Cadbury eggs. To die for.

9. How late is “sleeping in” to you?
Pre-Knight? Like noon, even though it was rare that I did that. Since Knight? 9 am (he’s incapable of sleeping in). And if we have the girls? 8am (that’s a late start to the day for them and I’m grateful when they sleep until 8am).

10. Where are you going on your next vacation?
I think we are planning an October vacation to a cabin somewhere where we can admire the fall colors, drink wine and relax. I can’t wait. (We had thought about a beach trip but decided to save half the cost of the trip for future needs. Not necessarily as awesome but responsibility is a good thing, right?!)
