The ABCs of Nora

I don’t normally do memes but I have some new readers (hi, new readers and welcome!) plus I wanted to end the week on a happy/fun note, so this just made sense to me! That and a few of my favorite friends around the blog world have done this so I’m totally jumping on the bandwagon.

Age: 27

Bed size: Queen. I love it! Enough room for me to spread out and Jack in the mornings (he loves to sleep next time between the hours of 5am-when I get up, no idea why. He’s a funny dog).

Chore you dislike: Dusting.

Dogs: Yes, see above! I have one and my parents also have one. I would love to have another one someday

Essential start to your day: Sleeping in. No, not an option? Then waking up to a fun song when my alarm comes on, a nice shower and picking a killer outfit for the day.

Favorite color: Lately I’m into the Navy. Usually, it’s a pinkish hue.

Gold or silver: White gold or silver.

Height: 59

Instruments you play(ed): Piano, flute, piccolo. Not playing now but I used to and maybe could still squeak out a few flute notes.

Job title: Director of Support Services. In English: Contract, Client, Vendor Relations, Inside Sales, Marketing, Logistics and more

Kids: Knight has two; does this count?

Live: STL!

Mom’s name: On this blog? Darling. In real life its something different but I won’t share it here, though it’s a pretty name!

Nicknames: Way too many Nor, Nor-Nor, Beeps, Laylou, Lays, and a ton more.

Overnight hospital stays: Appendix my senior year in college. That was dreadful. Everything else has thankfully been outpatient.

Pet peeve: Overtakers.

Quote from a movie: Love actually is everywhere. Love Actually OR anything from You’ve Got Mail.

Righty or Lefty: Righty

Siblings: one younger brother who rocks.

Time you wake up: Ummm.. should be like 6 am on the weekdays but it never really is. More like 6:30 and sometimes 7, and yes, I’m always rushing around. I like my sleep. Weekends? Depends, anytime between 8-10, usually closer to 8 though. Which I hate.

Underwear: What about them? Do I like them? Sure. Especially if they are 5 for $25 at Victorias Secret. Or pretty colors. Or comfortable.

Vegetables you don’t like: Peas. Carrots. Mostly cause I’m super duper allergic to them.

What makes you run late: The Snooze button. Or trying to get in one last chore or errand before meeting friends/family. Oh, and traffic. (Seriously!)

X-Rays you’ve had: Left ankle, left hand, left shoulder (hmmm), and on my sinuses of all things!

Yummy food you make: Baked mostaccioli, spicy chicken + risotto, an amazing lasagna, cupcakes, and a variety of desserts. I’m kind of in love with cooking/baking again since I have such an appreciative audience these days.

Zoo animal favorite: Penguins, duh.

I hope you learned something new today; feel free to share any/all of your own on your blog or in the comments!
Happy Friday!

My Butterfly

I stumbled upon this quote the other day and the more I thought about it, the more it resonates with me.

Ive spent the last few months making myself finish graduate school (six weeks and counting), setting positive goals for myself with regards to my health and fitness (thank you 10K training), examined my life, reunited with friends and made new ones and a plethora of other normal activities. Nothing crazy. No wondering when certain events will take place. No pressuring myself into things Im not quite ready for.

When I look at what Ive done day in and day out it is simply this: Ive Lived.

In that living, the daily grind, the day-to-day ups and downs, Ive realized Im happier than Ive been in a long time.

I want to bottle up this feeling and store it away for a day where Im feeling blue. Or better yet, never let it go.

Nora Confessions, Part VII

* Ive never seen the original Star Wars movies. Ever.

* When I was in Key West for my friends bachelorette party, I committed the Cardinal Sin of vacations: I fell for a local. Captain Steve. Sigh. Italian, tall, tan, handsome and wildly adventurous.

* If I cant sleep, I will eat M&Ms in bed while playing my Nintendo DSi.

* I still suffer from blogger envy on occasion: design, followers, stats. I know, its totally silly and shallow considering everything else thats going on in the world.

* About once every two months, my Monica Gellar cleanliness tendencies go out the window. Suddenly there are piles of clothes, books and other randomness all over my room. It builds up until I cant take it anymore and I do a clean sweep.

* I get really annoyed when the men I work with feel the need to make loud, bodily function noises in the hallway. I may be the only girl in the office, but I can hear them!

* Im not sure that Im feeling Glee this season. The plot line is a bit jumpy.

* The other day, I caught a glimpse of myself and my hair in the mirror. The curliness and gray hair totally looked like Cher in Moonstruck. I havent decided if this is a good or bad thing. I guess itd be good if it means I find some Italian dude who likes the look.

* Some days I wish I could be the party girl, the devil-may-care-attitude girl. Not the cares-what-people-think, people-pleasing, worrying-about-everyone-but-herself girl.

Anything you want to get off your chest today?

Bullets on a Wednesday

* License Plate Renewals. So, not sure what its like in other states but Missouri doesnt make it easy. Not only do we need to have the State Inspection completed, we also need to have our emissions tested (which Im online with for cars that are older and not up to par), two years of personal property tax receipts (yeah, we pay taxes on our freakin car), insurance proof and then the State of MO paperwork they send you. The silver lining to the stupid stormcloud that is license plate renewal, which fortunately only comes around every two years is that they ran out of June license plates so they gave me July plates. Woohoo for an extra month of license plate validity! (Its all in the small things!)

* 365 days. Irish and I made it to the one-year mark. In celebration we each took the day off. Despite the fact that we spent some time running personal errands (like licenese plate renewal, purchasing a new refrigerator and dropping off clothes at Goodwill) we had a leisurely brunch at our favorite breakfast place, watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie, not TV show), read, took a nap, and indulged in some delicious Mexican food, ice cream sundaes and saw The Proposal. Irish surprsied me with a a sweet card that brought me to tears and some really great earrings and the very same kind of flowers he brought to me on our first date. All in all, a very good day.

* Moving on up. So next week is the big move back into the parents house. I still have a lot of boxes to pack and I know it will be a pain but its definitely going to be easier for me. Currently I have stuff strewn about in three different places, I dont have a sense of home, and Im kind of tired of living out of suitcases. While Ill still fauxhabitate with Irish being at my parents will allow me to feel grounded in one spot, get my nest egg, into good shape and oddly enough, allow me to relax at the same time. Im a little nervous about giving up MY space and MY freedom but I think it will all work out.

* The Studies. After the move and after next weeks midterm, Ill be making an appointment with my advisor to discuss my options. At this point Ill either forge on and finish my MBA (I only have four classes to go) or switch tracks and get started on an MA in International Affairs. This is of course pending the financial aspect of it all which has yet to be determined. I feel good about my decisions and my changes so far; everyone (including my fabulous blogger friends, thank you all very much) have been incredibly supportive and positive. Im excited to see whats next!

* New Orleans. Two weeks from Friday Ill be on my way south for a week, mainly for work but additional I plan to check out the Ghost Tour, the Book Tour, historical sites, cafes, bookstores, delicious food and Ill probably wander around Bourbon Street again just for the experience. Theres a good chance EP and her boy will meet up with me and Irish for a day or so which means I dont have to wait another year for a blogger meet-up!

So Ive shared what I think you guys want to hear about but is there something Im missing? Any questions you want to ask? Anything is fair game, so ask away. Leave a comment and Ill post the answers!
