I still have a swarm of posts swirling around in my head and while I work on getting them out/down, I’m back to Ten on Tuesday this week!
Thanks to the lovely Chelsea as always for hosting!
1. How did your parents decide on your name?
My dad’s father passed away almost three years to the day I was born (I promise that’s important to note). While my mom was pregnant with me, my dad had a dream in which is father came to him and asked him to name me my full name. Dad told Mom, and so it was! My full name is so unique, I just love it. (Nora is a nickname/part of my full name which I also love.) My middle name is a family name (my mom’s parents’ last name) and I think the two combined have a lovely ring to it.
2. Do your initials (First, Middle, Last) spell out anything fun/funny?
Nope, I don’t think so.
3. Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name? (If unmarried, what do you plan to do?)
I’m unmarried and I really like my middle name so I’ll probably keep it. That and my last name would make a super weird middle name that would confuse people so unless my parents throw a huge fit, I’ll be keeping my middle name if/when I marry.
4. Are you or will you name your children thematically (ie. same first letter, all of same origin…)
Doubtful. I already know what I’d like my kids names to be if I have any but I don’t believe they are of the same origin and they definitely don’t have the same first letter.
5. Did you decide on baby names as a little girl? Did you stick to them or change your mind?
I don’t think so? I’ve known what I’d like to name a girl if I have one for the last few years and I refuse to change it. (Or to share it. Anytime I tell someone any of the names I like or have liked, it gets taken by family members.)
6. Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
Yes, there are a few, my middle name being one of them.
7. Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?
Very rarely do I look at the meaning of the name; I guess I don’t put much stock in the meaning of names. Sometimes they do apply though!
8. Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr. Bo Bo)?
Ha, my dog’s name is Jack and my family dog’s name is Huck (as in Huckleberry Finn) so yes, they have people names. I wouldn’t change it for the world!
9. Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?
Lots of them but I’m sure if I list them I’ll offend someone. Suffice to say I know what they are and won’t be naming my kids anything close to them!
10. What are some of your favorite names? Why?
Anything Italian because they sound beautiful and I must say, some of the “old school” names like Henry and Benjamin. I don’t know why. They just sound nice and classic and strong to me.
I hate my last name so, so much. I just think it’s an atrocity. As for the rest of my name, my parents named me Sara Kathryn but called me Katie. In 6th grade, I changed it to Katy; by college, I was just Kate. I’ve never been Sara or Kathryn, & it drives me absolutely batty that my name doesn’t feel like a part of me. If & when I marry, I’d like to change my legal name to Kate [Maiden Name] {Married Name]. Please, please, please let me not marry someone with an equally crummy last name…
I LOVE your name too! What a COOL story behind it
Um, I’m about to post my Ten on Tuesday (and had it written before I read this), and I TOTALLY mention both Henry AND Benjamin. I like the way you think.
I love your name. Perfectly pretty and unique!
I also love the name Henry and it’s a family name. But the old names are coming back and I don’t want to name my child something common.
This is such a fun TOT topic! I love how you don’t want to mention the names for fear someone will take them! Reminds me of a certain Friends episode…
I read the first question that your dad died 3 years before your birth and was REALLY confused until I read it again. LOL.
I love the story of how your name came to be! How lovely.
I had a dream while pregnant that I had a little girl and her name was Hannah or Anna (I couldn’t quit distinguish in the dream), so I decided that I was having a girl and that was her name. Unfortunately, that pregnancy didn’t last, but I’m convinced she was a little Hannah. It seems like such a wonderful way to name a person.
my initials went from spelling KAR to KAB. and that will always make me laugh, haha.
I love your “name story”! I wish there was a special significance to my name, but I think my mom just liked it and I don’t blame her. I really like Madeline
I like traditional names, especially for boys! I’ve always been a fan of Anthony for a boys name. For a girl, I think I want something a bit more modern.
I love Italian names too
I love the story behind your name – that is so cool! I think you have a beautiful name.
I love the name Huck. Such a great name!
Ok, now I’m really curious. What is your middle name? I love your first name. When I was younger I hated my name but I absolutely love it now.
i was very attached to my name when i got married. i use my married name for anything official but i moved my maiden name in my middle name. it’s long but it makes me feel right so that’s all that matters. C will call me by my maiden name if he’s looking for me in a store or trying to get my attention
oops *moved my maiden name in with my middle name, so i essentially have 4 names lol
